Why the need to ditch your regular bras?
As a breastfeeding mummy of two for close to 6 years (with a year of the gap during my second pregnancy), I have since learned the importance of not having the flesh-digging regular bras during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Not only was it not comfortable, mastitis soon became a close acquaintance. Bras with underwire are a big No-No as it places pressure on the milk ducts and tissues, which potentially resulted in plugged milk ducts. I remember clearly now an incident when I suddenly feel such a localized pain in my breast during a meeting with the client, to the point of me unable to even hooked the wired bras. Next thing I knew, I was down with mastitis, an infection in the milk duct which causes fever, chills and a whole host of unpleasant experiences.
Regular bras with underwire simply couldn’t accommodate our growing bump and body as it constricts the growth of diaphragm. Maternity and nursing bras, on the other hand, allows the bras to have room for the expansion of diaphragm as the lil bun in the oven grows=)

Comfort is an extremely important factor in selecting the right maternity bra. Maternity and nursing bras with soft cups and increased rows of hooks and eyes are ideal to accommodate the change in breast size. Nursing mummies often find themselves having larger and fuller breasts in the morning and vice versa.
In addition, natural and soft fabrics are not only comfy but it minimized irritation and possible risk of chafing due to friction and sweatiness.
May I add here that beautiful nursing bras and lingerie are as important as the comfy factor? Just as our life experience dramatic changes with the presence and joy of the lil one(s), our beauty and wardrobe don’t have to! My mum was quick to remind me of how I soon looked like some disheveled creature and chided me for it. Not only for the visual right of the loved ones, but I soon realized it is more for myself. Women ought to feel feminine, sexy and empowered! Having a wardrobe of plain-looking comfy lingerie certainly does nothing to that.
