I Tried A Menstrual Cup For The First Time And This Is What Happened
You've probably heard about the menstrual cup at least once, whether it is through social media or through your friends and family. In my case, it was social media. MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
So I went out and purchase one and when my period finally came, I was so excited to try it out! However, it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be to just pop it in and pop them out, well, it's always the hardest the first time. I started going through my phone to see videos and blogs on how to insert the cup in my "vajayjay", sitting on my toilet bowl, for about half an hour.
When I finally got it in, it felt like victory! (but to be honest, once you get the hang of it, you would take about 5-10 minutes in the bathroom and that will be it for the rest of the day)
I've only experienced leakage once and that was because I was rushing, so I did not bother to check to see if it was fully open and left the house. You would be able to feel it if there was any leakage and it will not leak like the Niagara Falls, but how I'd describe the leakage when you're wearing the cup would be similar to spotting. Hence, to be safe, for the first few times, it would be best to line your panties with a panty liner in case of any leakage.
Besides that, the first time I took it out, I had to dig really deep to find the stem of my menstrual cup.
HOW TO TAKE THEM OUT?
The tip to this is that once you've felt the stem, pull it out slightly and pinch the tip to release pressure, pull and it will pop right out. The first time I saw the amount of the blood, I got shocked and felt kind of disgusted. After using it for a few times, I got used to it and I think it's important to remember that at the end of the day, it's your own blood anyway, so nothing gross about it.
What's great about this Menstrual Cup is that you can go out and about your day without worrying that you would forget your sanitary pads or tampons out with you but once the cup is in you, you can let it stay in there for up to 12 hours and how it is more hygienic is that, it does not absorb the blood but just holds the blood to dispose later on in the evening. However, if you really needed to unload the cup in public toilets, bidets will be your best friend because you can rinse them out with tap water and put it back in. Besides that, it just makes your down there feels so fresh and not clammy like how I would always feel with soiled sanity pads. I went to work, yoga, out partying with my friends with zero worries. You can even wear thongs, feeling sexy by keep your granny panties far far away in your drawers.
I loved the menstrual cup so much that I could not stop talking about it to all my friends for a good two weeks believe it or not. All of them asked the same questions which were things revolving "Isn't it too big to put it in?", "Wouldn't it leak?" "Will it get lost in there", and the only way to find out is to try them out yourself, just like I did and I'm never going back to sanitary pads! Better for the environment and better for you!
